Carrot Citrus Coldbuster Smoothie

orange-carrotlately on Facebook it seems everyone has some sort of a cold going on. What better way to fight a cold than a vitamin packed smoothie in the morning! We all know vitamin C is the best thing to fight back a cold and Oranges are packed with this little vitamin. Carrots are also packed with nutritional and medicinal properties, loaded with vitamins and antioxidants, with vitamin A toping them all off (over 400% RDA). Lastly we have the pineapple another fruit packed with vitamin C and manganese. It also is a source of bromeliad, an enzyme which may reduce inflammation and swelling.

  • 1 banana
  • 1 cup of baby carrots
  • 1 orange, peeled
  • 1/2 cup of frozen pineapple
  • 2 cups of cold water (start off with one cup and add more as needed)
  • 1-1/2 cups of ice

Mix all up in your favorite blender and serve :) Want an extra boost? substitute GoodBelly Mango Probiotic juice for the water!

Well it was a hot one last week and even though it seems the weather is changing it is still a little warm out. This tropical tasting smoothie will be sure to cool you down anytime of the day, but also makes a great way to start the day as well.

1 Peeled Orange
1/2 cup coconut milk
1/2 cup plain or vanilla non fat greek yogurt (optional)
1 banana
1 cup chopped frozen pineapple chunks
1/4 cup shredded coconut
Water as needed

Combine all ingredients in a blender and blend at the highest setting for 30-60 seconds. Pour and enjoy!

Avocado Green Smoothie

green_smoothieYes avocado! Avocados are rich in vitamin B and E, great for cancer protection and cardiovascular health. So why not add it to your morning smoothie for a great nutritional boast. I recommend 1/4 of a avocado or so for your smoothie, maybe half if you are making a large amount. As mentioned in another post the key to green smoothies is the having a higher ratio of fruit. In this one I added pineapple as it tends to dominate any other flavors.

1/2 cup of non fat greek yogurt
1 banana
1 cup packed baby spinach
1/4 – 1/2 pealed and pitted avocado
1 cup frozen peaches
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/4-1/2 cup of water (add as needed if to thick)

Makes about 4 8oz servings, or 2 large glasses :)

Berry Pineapple Smoothie

This one I just made this afternoon and may be my new favorite (till the next one) loaded with berries (thus antioxidents) and is very healthy and as always when you add pineapple it becomes the dominant flavor.

1 Cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/3 Cup frozen blueberries
1/3 Cup frozen cranberries
1 Cup frozen strawberries
1 banana
1 tablespoon of ground flaxseed
1/4-1/2 cup of water

Start out with about the 1/4 of water, adding more if it is to thick to blend. Of course you can use fresh fruit if you wish. If you do substitute the water with 1/2 of ice instead.

Makes about 1 1/2-2 servings

Zen’s Cream Sickle Smoothie

Here is a recipe submitted by online and Deviant Art friend Zen

• 1.25 cups Silk brand vanilla soy milk (or substitute Rice or Almond Milk)
• ¾ cup yogurt
• ½ cup pineapple and mandarin oranges (mostly orange)
• ½ cup Tropicana Grove stand OJ with pulp
• 5 ice cubes
• **for added health add Flax Seed, or other health food additives that work for you.

Zen mentions the Tropicana OJ which is good, but for more health find a 100% pure OJ with no additives and not from concentrate.
makes 4-5 cups

Tropical Blend Smoothie

This happens to be one of my favorite smoothies to date. Very tasty and filling. Just don’t over do the pineapple as this ends up being the dominant flavor.

  • 1/2 cup frozen pineapple
  • 1 cup frozen Mango
  • 1 ripe banana, peeled
  • 1 cup Cantaloupe
  • 1 tbsp ground flaxseed
  • 1 cup plain greek yogurt
  • 1-1/2 cups of Rice Milk

Optional: 1/2 cup baby spinach leaves

Blend all ingredients in blender first set at medium and then at high. When smooth continue blending while pouring in ice to taste. If you add the spinach as I do the smoothie will take on a slight green tint, but you won’t taste it a bit. Serves 4 to 6.
