Found! Frozen Peaches in Bulk!

wawona_frozen_peachesI have posted in the past about Freeze your own Fruits and save! and then followed up with Super size it please – When buying frozen does pay. Well just wanted to do another quick post as I have finally found a source for frozen peaches that works out. Don’t know if I was just blind before or the just carry them off and on but I found this again at Costco.

Wawona Organic Peaches! Comes in a 4lb bag of cut peaches and ran about $6.50 I believe. They are delicious and work great in the smoothies, lasting a couple weeks! At that price it beats buying your own and spending the time cutting them up and freezing.

Your opinion may vary though :) but when I look at the big picture time is something I find important and if I can save some then its a good deal. Within reason of course, if the bag was $10 or more it may not be worth it. If you don’t have a Costco near you do some looking around and try to find a similar deal, but make sure they are organic and check ingredients to be sure there is nothing added that you can’t pronounce (if anything).

Pom-Berry Breakfast Smoothie

POM Wonderful Pomegranate JuiceI was wandering around costco the other day and ran across this big bottle of POM pomegranate juice and thought, hmmm that would be good in a smoothie. Pomegranate juice is packed with antioxidants, in fact more than any other juice. Studies have shown that pomegranate juice may help prevent hardening of the arteries as well as protect you from heart disease, cholesterol and even stress! The great thing about POM is its 100% pomegranate juice, nothing else, so makes a great healthy and natural smoothies additive. This is what I threw together the other day and in fact have had it a couple times since its so good.

1 1/2 Cup POM wonderful juice
1 Banana
1 Cup frozen strawberries
1/2 Cup frozen cranberries
1/2 Cup frozen raspberries
1 Tablespoon rice vanilla protein powder (optional)

Mix in blender for 30-60 seconds till smooth. Makes about 2 large glasses of a delicious tangy berry smoothie

Orange Creamsicle Smoothie

Orange Smoothie

Orange Smoothie

Well not quite that famous flavor but its close and very creamy. A great breakfast smoothie to start your day, adding an orange to get your vitamin C dose for the day it is quite tasty and I easily consumed the whole blender. As with most I start with the 1/4 of water and add a little more as needed if its to thick. I also added my protein powder and flaxseed to mine.

1/2 cup greek nonfat vanilla yogurt
1 large navel orange
1 cup frozen peaches
1 banana
1/2 cup frozen mango chunks
1/4-1/2 cup water

Avocado Green Smoothie

green_smoothieYes avocado! Avocados are rich in vitamin B and E, great for cancer protection and cardiovascular health. So why not add it to your morning smoothie for a great nutritional boast. I recommend 1/4 of a avocado or so for your smoothie, maybe half if you are making a large amount. As mentioned in another post the key to green smoothies is the having a higher ratio of fruit. In this one I added pineapple as it tends to dominate any other flavors.

1/2 cup of non fat greek yogurt
1 banana
1 cup packed baby spinach
1/4 – 1/2 pealed and pitted avocado
1 cup frozen peaches
1/2 cup frozen pineapple chunks
1/4-1/2 cup of water (add as needed if to thick)

Makes about 4 8oz servings, or 2 large glasses :)
